PrimePlayer’s ICP exemption has been approved

Apple approved PrimePlayer’s ICP exemption on October 30. Here is what its design without a developer-operated backend or uploads of user information means for your everyday privacy.

On October 30, Apple approved PrimePlayer’s ICP exemption application.

In the previous article, I was still waiting for a response. PrimePlayer’s online video and IPTV features meant explaining the purpose of its network requests, where content comes from, and how data is handled. That process now has a result.

What the application explained

The application was based on PrimePlayer having no developer-operated backend and uploading no user information to a developer server. An app that operates a backend and uploads or stores user information there could no longer apply for the same exemption on that basis.

For online video and IPTV, your device connects directly to the content sources you add. PrimePlayer parses, organizes, and plays that content without routing video or channel requests through my servers. I do not operate a backend that receives your private media or viewing history.

Privacy in everyday use

These are the design choices I want to keep:

  • No account or sign-in is required, so playing your own videos does not require submitting personal details first.
  • Local videos, viewing history, folders, and playlists stay on your device and are not uploaded to developer-operated servers.
  • There are no ads, user tracking, or behavioral analytics, and viewing habits are not used to build user profiles.
  • Browser transfers and nearby-device migration happen directly between the participating devices, without sending files through developer-operated servers.

When you play online videos or IPTV channels, the source server still receives information needed for the connection, such as your IP address. App Store purchases and purchase restoration are handled by Apple. The Privacy Policy explains how data is handled across these features.

Download and try it with confidence

Getting from application to approval completes another part of the release process. It is also a chance to explain how PrimePlayer treats personal privacy: your private media and viewing history do not need to be handed over to me.

You are welcome to download and try PrimePlayer with confidence. I hope it becomes a useful video player that respects your privacy. I will keep improving playback, organization, and transfers while maintaining these principles for handling your data.
